Volkswagen Group sees dramatic increase in EVs

Volkswagen Group’s 2020 electric vehicle sales show a dramatic increase in numbers.  

A total of 231,600 fully electric vehicles were sold globally, representing 2.5 per cent of total sales, and up three times on 2019. A further 190,500 plug-in hybrid sales were tallied also, up 195 per cent. Collectively, this puts electrified vehicles at 4.5 per cent of total sales. 

Electric vehicles in Western Europe comprised 10.5 per cent, which made up almost 73 per cent of worldwide electric sales.

The best selling models included the Volkswagen ID.3 (56,600), Audi e-tron (47,300), VW e Golf (41,300), Volkswagen e Up (22,000) and Porsche’s Taycan (20,000).

It’s predicted that electric vehicles could propel to 10.5 per cent of total sales in 2021. Overall vehicle sales (electric and non-electric, combined) in 2020 for the VW Group were down 15.2 percent compared with 2019.
