Take virtual tours of top auto museums

The lockdown doesn’t mean that you can’t get your fill of rare or special vehicles; instead many automotive museums are holding virtual tours. Here are the best from around the world in alphabetical order:

Corvette

It’s based in Bowling Green, Kentucky, USA and not only is it home to the plant that builds the Corvette, but the site of the National Corvette Museum. Thanks to Google Street View, you can make a virtual visit to the museum. You can also take a 360-degree tour of the massive sinkhole that swallowed eight classic Corvettes in 2014.

Ferrari

Ferrari has two museums in Italy, one next to its factory in Maranello and another in Modena. Both can be accessed virtually through Google Indoor Street View.

Lane Motor

This museum in Nashville, Tennessee, has an eclectic collection that includes obscure French classics, micro cars and a replica of the 1933 Dymaxion.  

 Lamborghini

You can get a virtual tour of the museum in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy, offered via Google Indoor Street View. Be prepared to spend hours checking out these stunning vehicles, inside and out.

Mercedes-Benz

Located in Stuttgart, Germany is Mercedes-Benz’s museum that looks just as stunning on the outside as it does inside. You can take the museum's virtual tour or if you have a VR headset, Mercedes offers 360-degree tour videos on its YouTube channel.

Petersen Automotive

During the lockdown in California, this museum is offering live-streamed hour-long digital tours of its famous vault collection, plus has educational digital lessons.

Porsche

Situated in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, Germany, this is easily one of the best car museums in the world. It has the brand's most iconic and influential sports cars and race cars. The museum's virtual tour lets you explore the collection inside and the architecture outside.

Toyota

Located in Nagakute, Japan, the Toyota Automobile Museum not only tells the story of the company founded by Kiichiro Toyoda in 1937, but of the automobile itself. And it doesn’t just showcase classic Toyotas. There are Bugattis, Alfa Romeos, Mercedes-Benzs and Fords.
