This year’s Detroit motor show has been cancelled amid the worsening coronavirus pandemic in the USA.

Officially named the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), the annual event was held in January from 1989 to 2019, but was due to take place in June from 2020 onwards. It is one of the largest auto shows in North America.

Now officials have followed Geneva motor show’s lead and cancelled the event due to COVID-19.

The TCF Center, where the Detroit show was set to take place, will be converted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency into a field hospital as COVID-19 cases in Michigan continue to rise.

The next Detroit motor show will be staged in June 2021, according to a memo sent to sponsors obtained by Automotive News.
