Kia New Zealand is celebrating its sporting partnership with the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 by delivering the first vehicles to the organisers.

The international event takes place in New Zealand and Australia, starting on July 20 at Eden Park with the Football Ferns taking on Norway, followed by Australia playing Ireland later the same evening in Sydney.

Kia NZ managing director, Todd McDonald, met with Dave Beeche, the CEO of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, at Eden Park to hand over the keys for the first two new Kia EV6 GT-Line electric vehicles, from a total of 104 Kia vehicles on the FIFA fleet.

“Kia is a FIFA partner as well as the official automotive partner of FIFA and has been backing football globally for more than 20 years,” said McDonald.

“It’s hugely exciting to welcome the biggest women’s sporting event in the world to the country, as co-host with Australia.

“It is also very apt that the Kia EV6 is the vehicle of choice for this event, as it is a fully electric vehicle with zero tailpipe emissions, so it aligns with the health-related principles associated with the top-level, international sport.”

Beeche said the delivery of the Kia fleet vehicles was another exciting milestone and a reminder of just how close to kick-off we’re getting.

“Kia is a long-term supporter of football and it’s a pleasure to partner with a brand that is spearheading the movement to electric vehicles, which strongly aligns with FIFA’s focus on reducing emissions.”
