Even if you garage your car, it faces dirt, grit, petrol and diesel fumes and spills, grime, pollen, UV rays, stones, bitumen splatter, road-works sludge ... the list goes on.

But regular cleaning allows you to remove these nasties before they eat away at your chrome and paintwork.

There are many products available to help maintain your car, and it’s time to say Kia Ora to a new brand from Australia, the family business of Bowden’s Own.

Available in Repco and Supercheap Auto, Bowden’s Own range has over 100 highly effective car care products, including the much-loved Boss Gloss, Fully Slick, Wheely Clean, Naked Glass, and the cheekily-named Wet Dreams and Snow Job,

Dan Bowden and his family also have an extensive range of cars.

Made by hand from the family’s Sunshine Coast facility, Dan Bowden, who founded the company alongside his brother Chris Bowden, said the products aren’t about flashy marketing or false promises, they’re about getting real results.

“We’ve spent years, sometimes over a decade, perfecting some of our formulas. One of our most popular products, Wheely Clean, for example, is an acid-free, super-effective wheel cleaner that’s 100% unique to Bowden’s Own,” said Dan.

The Bowden family has amassed a collection of over 80 classic, sports, muscle, and race cars from Australia and New Zealand, mostly housed within their Queensland property, along with select models displayed in museums and showrooms around the country.

Caring for this collection is what started the Bowden’s Own range, after years of using US and European “quality” car care products with damaging ingredients.

It’s important to pay attention to alloys, especially in autumn and winter.

“We’re stoked to finally bring Bowden’s Own to New Zealand. We know the Kiwi car scene is full of true, hardcore car fanatics who love their machines as much as we do, and we know they’ll appreciate a car care brand that’s created by fanatics, for fanatics,” said Dan.

Here are five tips to prepare your car for autumn:

  • Clear any leaves or debris from out of the gutters that sit at the bottom of the windscreen.

  • Always endeavour to wash your vehicle in a cool shaded area or at the start or end of the day.

  • Wipe the windscreen wiper blades and check for deterioration, replace if needed.

  • Wash your wheels separately with a different mitt.

  • Clean your lights (front and back) as they’ll have grime on them too.
