Volkswagen is considering whether to build a convertible version of its ID.3 full-electric hatchback and has enlisted social media users to test support for the idea.

VW Group CEO Herbert Diess went on Twitter and Linkedin to ask fans what they think about a convertible EV, while brand boss Ralf Brandstätter also went on Linkedin to gauge opinion for a soft-top version of the ID.3

“I admit: a very tempting idea. We are still pondering how to turn this attractive concept into reality. Just in case, our design team has already sketched out some initial ideas,” said Brandstätter on Linkedin.

He even had his design team create some sketches of what the vehicle would look like.

VW launched the ID.3, the first model from its electric-only ID family, last year in Europe. Since then, the brand has added the larger ID.4 crossover, which as the first ID global model that targets the U.S. and China, is expected to become the bestseller in the ID lineup.

Now excuse me, I’ve just off to twitter and Linkedin to say, “yes please, I want a convertible ID.3”.

The ID.3 electric hatchback has been a big success for Volkswagen in Europe.
