Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles NZ has achieved its second top month of sales for May, following on from a record March.

In March VW sold 528 motor vehicles nationwide, and last month registered 548 motor vehicles.

The brand is also confident that June will be equally productive as it will have a stand at the Fieldays at Mystery Creek.

“We are very pleased with the result and encouraged by the support we have had from our dealer network and our wonderful Volkswagen customers,” says Greg Leet, Volkswagen New Zealand’s General Manager of Passenger Vehicles.

The latest record monthly sales volume for May represents a 5.5% market share.

The facelift VW Tiguan was also a top seller for the brand.

The all-new Volkswagen Golf and the new Tiguan Facelift played key roles in these results, doubling their expected volume, but sales were strong across all Volkswagen models including the newly landed Golf GTI and the returning Passat Alltrack.

Leet says these numbers could have been even greater without the ongoing industry-wide Covid-19 supply chain issues.

“Our pre-sales are still very prevalent with customers showing they are prepared to wait several months for their new vehicles to land, so we’re obviously very thankful for their loyalty and understanding.”

May also marked an unprecedented amount of passenger vehicle arrivals for Volkswagen, with more than double the usual volume.
