Volkswagen New Zealand just got an early Christmas present with confirmation that the all-new Golf 8 and the Golf GTI by March 2021.

The eighth-generation Golf hatchback comes in two model variants; the TSI from $37,990 and the R-Line at $10,000 more. They both have a 1.4-litre engine producing 110kW and 250Nm of torque.

The GTi is priced from $61,490 and comes with a 2-litre, four cylinder inline turbo engine producing 180kW of power and 370Nm of torque.

The Golf remains the flagship model for Volkswagen, and General Manager of Volkswagen  Passenger Vehicles, Greg Leet, says there has already been a lot of interest.

“At the very heart of our brand, the Golf has become a beloved icon across the generations. Now  in its eighth cycle, it continues its class-leading status by bringing progress and new technology to the hatch segment.

The VW Golf GTI is priced from $61,490 and comes with a 2-litre engine.

“It represents the greatest leap forward since the model launched over 45 years ago, and we know  our customers are excited with a large number pre-registering their interest ” says Leet.

The all-new Golf has been digitally remastered for its final generation, creating a level in which all  of the functional displays and controls have become digital. Starting with the new 10.25” Active  Info Display ‘Pro and MIB-3 infotainment system. And on the R-Line trim, the Discover Media  infotainment system also features Wireless App-Connect and a new Head-up Display.

Advanced functionality is also evident in the centre console, which is now clearer and more  efficient than ever before with the all-new shift-by-wire gear knob for the 8-speed automatic  gearbox.

The design, whilst still unmistakably Golf, looks even sleeker on the outside with a leaner front  grille and imposing lower-profile bumper. LED head and rear taillights are now standard across  the range, giving the Golf a striking presence on the road.

The new Golf R is expected to arrive in New Zealand at the end of 2021.
