Volkswagen has announced it will begin European deliveries of its all-important ID.3 in September.

The car will not initially be available with the App Connection function or the augmented reality like head-up display. The former will render functions such as Apple Car Play and use of the Volkswagen We digital store as unavailable.

All tech features will be available in quarter four deliveries and those getting their cars first will need to get a software upgrade in late 2020.

Orders for the First Edition ID.3 will be taken from June 17.  Top spec cars will top out at €50,000 (NZ$87,000) with base versions as low as €30,000 (NZ$52,000).

VW is aiming to become the world’s largest electric car maker with expectations of 1.5 million cars by 2025.

VW NZ hopes to have the ID.3 available in 2021.
