Volkswagen NZ drops price of electric Golf

Volkswagen New Zealand has reduced the price of the electric Golf by $7500 as the full electric ID.3 hatchback goes into full production.

The Volkswagen e-Golf is now available from $61,990, reduced from $69,490. It has a real world range of 220km with 100kW of power.

Greg Leet, General Manager for Volkswagen New Zealand Passenger Vehicles, told AutoMuse that “the intention of this limited time offer on the e-Golf is to make the 100 per cent electric vehicle a bit more competitive in this current market”.

The e-Golf offers four unique levels of regenerative braking that the driver can choose to control the rate of battery recharge. This is helpful in slow-moving traffic helping to extend the range and enhance efficiency. Additionally, three different driving modes are offered which tailor the characteristics of the drivetrain to suit the driver: Normal, Eco and Eco +.

The offer is current now and runs through until  31 October or while stocks last.

The ID.3 is the first model in Volkswagen’s all-electric ID brand and the beginning of the automaker’s plan to sell one million EVs annually by 2025.

VW has been inundated with orders in Europe for the ID.3 as it is seen as an affordable EV with a strong design reputation. At its reveal at last year’s Frankfurt motor show, VW already had 30,000 pre-orders for the electric hatchback.

Leet was at the Frankfurt motor show and the ID.3 coming to New Zealand was “on the top of my list” of discussions with his VW bosses.
