Toyota New Zealand has created a low-emission site at Fieldays thanks to its hydrogen generator that will silently provide clean energy to the stand while emitting only a few drops of warm water.

The Toyota generator was developed in partnership with a European technology company, using a fuel cell similar to the power unit inside the brand’s hydrogen-powered Mirai car.

Toyota New Zealand CEO Neeraj Lala says that using the hydrogen generator demonstrates that hydrogen is a “genuine clean energy alternative for future innovation and technology beyond cars”.

Lala says Toyota is focused on providing its customers with a range of electrified powertrains, including BEV, PHEV, and hybrid technologies, with more than 80% of the product range now electrified.

Toyota will be exhibiting two of the newest vehicles in its line-up at Fieldays, the new Hilux hybrid, and the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, both of which have lower emission powertrains.

Lala says the reality is that they are still higher emitting than the average passenger car.

“We are able to offer vehicles like the Hilux hybrid and the Land Cruiser Prado, due to the lower emission performance of our broader range of models. In fact, Toyota has capped sales for Hilux at a maximum of 30% of its total annual vehicles to that end. Limiting sales of higher-emitting vehicles will  help support the transition to a lower carbon economy.”

Fieldays runs from 12 – 15 June, at Mystery Creek, Hamilton.
