Top 5 cars for dad this Father’s Day
As it’s Father’s Day this Sunday, we thought we’d pick some vehicles that would suit the main man in your life.
But what makes a car good for Dad? Practicality? Big boot and back seat? Sure, we Dads want all that but more importantly, it's got to be cool and it's got to be fun to drive. Here’s our pick.
5. Jeep Gladiator
What’s a better way for a trip to the tip than in a convertible ute! The Jeep Gladiator comes either with removable roof panels, or fold down canvas roof to add a dash of spice to your adventures. If you are a mountain biker, then the Gladiator is great for stowing your bikes in the back tray.
Here’s our review of the Gladiator when it came to Parihoa for a some off-roading.
4. Mercedes-Benz GLB
This seven-seater doesn’t scream “load up the kids’ football team”, instead the new shape of the Mercedes-Benz hides the third row of seats and has the premium look and feel. It’s priced from $78,900 to $104,900 and available In three engine variants.
Here’s what we thought of the first-ever GLB.
3. Tesla Model 3
The school drop off will be cool, and quiet (well, on the outside) with this electric sedan. It’s the top selling new EV in New Zealand and we know why; the Tesla looks futuristic and it has a great electric range of 620km.
2. BMW 8 Series convertible
Sunday drives would never be the same if Dad had one of these, and there’s enough room in the back for two passengers, so best behaving kids get first dibs! Priced from $277,400, the M850i combines all you need in a sports car: a great engine, four-wheel-drive in the form of BMW’s xDrive system, plus top notch technology and safety features.
Here’s our opinion of the M8 convertible.
1 Land Rover Defender
Why number one? The Land Rover showcases not only a retro yet futuristic design but its practicality wins out thanks to rubber matting that you can take out and hose down all the muck that comes with having kids – no matter what size. We also like the fact it can slot into city life, but also is great for trips away. Priced from $89,900 we’d suggest the five door 110 model, rather than the three door.
Here’s what we thought when the Land Rover Defender was ours for more than a week.
