It’s bad news for Kiwi fans of Tesla’s Cybertruck with the vehicle now available for the North American market.

The futuristic Cybertruck can no longer be reserved by New Zealanders, instead, it is replaced with ‘get updates’.

This is another setback for Tesla fans in New Zealand, with now a 12-month wait for the popular Model 3 and no word on when the Model Y will be available Downunder.

Elon Musk has warned that some models or variants will be withdrawn until the wait times reduce to more manageable periods.

The Cybertruck first debuted in late 2019, and reservations opened for customers around the world. Kiwis could reserve one with a $200 deposit. There is no news on when New Zealanders will get refunds.

Tesla NZ is run out of Australia and the electric company does not accept questions from the media with Musk the only spokesperson for the brand.

According to Australian electric vehicle website, The Driven, as of March 2020, Tesla had taken A$15billion worth of orders from Australian drivers according to crowdsourced data. At the time, Australia was said to be the third-largest market for the “cyberpunk” electric ute.
