Luxury car brand Polestar is set to double down on China with the opening of 20 showrooms.

The move comes about as the premium electric vehicle subsidiary of Volvo Motors, owned by Chinese Geely Auto Group, gets ready to release the Polestar2 sedan which will go head-to-head with the Tesla Model 3. Most of the showrooms will be in shopping malls, with the first starting in Shanghai.

Volvo will also export the high tech Polestar2 to Europe and the United States.

Initial pre-production reviews of the Polestar2 have praised the car for its linear weighting and quick responses, in terms of ride and handling, and also its much vaulted Android operating system (the first in the world).

First deliveries are expected in Europe in July.
