After the success of Webb’s recent car auction, we’re already looking forward to the next event in March next year, with one of our favourite cars up for sale.

The Webb’s car collection auction recently at the ASB Showgrounds saw a sell-through rate of more than 75 per cent with sales totally $2.8milliion, said Webb’s Head of Collectors’ Cars, Motorcycles & Single Owner Collections, Caolán McAleer,

There were 56 cars, 20 motorcycles, boats and automobile memorabilia at the event, with standing room only at the event due to 500-600 attending in person and about 700 online.

“The buyers came in their droves to ASB Showgrounds and a record number of registrations, it's our most successful auction to date,” said McAleer.

“A South African 1972 Ford Fairmont XYGT Shaker attracted Trans-Tasman inquiries and had several phone bidders and paddles raised in the room eventually selling for $221,375 against an estimate of $120,000–$150,000 setting a new auction record.”

My favourite, the 1964 Mercedes-Benz 230L, achieved $201,250 against an estimate of $160,000–$180,000.

“The German marque continues to be an enduring hit with collectors,” said McAleer.

Webb’s next Classic Car auction will be on 21 March, 2021 at Southward Car Museum, Wellington.  The music to my ears is that the line-up includes a coveted 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda. Those following my dream list know this is one car I want in the garage. My calendar is already marked off!
