New dealership reflects big business in East Auckland

One of the fastest-growing places in the Auckland region is east Auckland, with large housing developments around Botany and Flatbush, so it makes sense that vehicle distributors such as Armstrong’s focus on this area.

With Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai dealerships next door, Armstrong’s will officially open a Nissan, Peugeot, and Citroen car yard at  277 Ti Rakau Drive, East Auckland on June 26.

This new dealership makes it Armstrong’s 31st brand location nationwide, and it represents 16 international automotive marques.

“There’s something quite exciting about building a dealership from the ground up, there’s a huge amount of work involved but when everything falls in place it’s incredibly satisfying,” said Rick Armstrong, Managing Director of Armstrong’s.

“It is also an important development from an Armstrong’s perspective, as it reinforces the Group’s vision of the best people, best locations and best brands.

“Botany is an area which is experiencing rapid growth, so it’s vital we have a presence here across a number of brands, to help cater for a variety of different automotive tastes,” said Armstrong.

“It’s also a win for the local community, as we are making a significant investment in the East Auckland economy through the construction of new buildings as well as the creation of new jobs.”

Armstrong said his company was “New Zealand’s leading automotive group” and that it was “very adaptation”. He told the media during a tour of the dealership that the company “plans for the future on a daily basis”.

AutoMuse asked Armstrong about his opinion on record new cars, and whether they would continue or stabilise.

He said that they would continue and that historically dealerships carried too much stock but now there is the middle ground.

All brands have orders in their books and face four to eight-month delays in stock arriving here due to the closure of factories due to Covid, shipping delays, and now chip shortages.

“We need to remunerate staff now, not in six months time when the cars arrive and they get their commission,” said Armstrong.

The new dealership features a four-bay service centre, substantial parts warehousing and will have access to the adjacent Armstrong’s AutoBody as well as grooming and tyre facilities.

It will be staffed initially by a team of 14, lead by dealer principal Sean Parrey, who has extensive experience with Nissan, having led two Auckland dealerships.

The interior and signage on the building were Nissan, with Peugeot and Citreon brands beside the side entrance.
