Mini is set to remove leather from its standard features and options list, says the brand’s design boss, Oliver Heilmer.

It’s part of a growing consciousness that Mini wants to herald is as part of its “responsibility” value, making up one of four values including “curiosity”, “heartbeat” and “daredevil”.

Currently, 100 per cent of the seat fabric in the new Mini is recyclable.

The plan is to make sure most of Mini’s materials are recyclable. Currently, 100 percent of the fabric used in seats is recyclable, along with 70 percent of the lining.

“We don’t need leather anymore in the future because we don’t believe it’s sustainable”, says Heilmer.

Mini is set to still continue to grow its following of driver-focused cars, much like its parent company BMW Group.

The John Cooper Works will remain the brand leading hero car, with likely continued electrification enhancement, as Mini tracks into a greener future.
