It’s no surprise that the first Kiwis owners of MG’s fully electric two-seater convertible, the Cyberster, are a couple with strong ties to the brand.

The Cyberster in Diamond Red Metallic was delivered by Giltrap MG Dealer Principal Scott Hobson, who presented the new model to two longtime MG enthusiasts, Bronwyn and Paul Walbran.

The Walbrans are self-proclaimed devotees of the famous Octagon brand. Paul is a 55-year member of the Auckland MG Car Club, as well as the name behind ‘Paul Walbran Motors,’ a garage specialising in historic MG models, located in West Auckland’s New Lynn.

“I bought my first MG in the mid-1960’s and there has been a model from the marque in our garage ever since,” said Paul.

“This is the 12th MG we have owned, it’s been fascinating to witness the transition of the brand from our 1939 WA Saloon from the 1930’s across the decades in between to the very latest and greatest we have here,” said Paul.

“Also equally impressive is the evolution to full-electric motoring, it’s happened in such a relatively short time and the rate of change is simply astounding.

“The Cyberster is a beauty to behold and it is a car which is going to be driven and enjoyed.”

The Walbran’s MG Cyberster is the first to arrive in New Zealand for customer deliveries.

“The level of interest in MG Cyberster is absolutely incredible, I’ve been lucky enough to have driven a pre-series vehicle around Auckland recently and have been amazed at the number of people taking photos of the new model,” said MG Motor New Zealand Chief Operating Officer, Harrie Yan.

“We have always said it is a groundbreaking new addition that represents a major leap forward in both technology and design, if the levels of attention in it are anything to go by then the team have got this vehicle absolutely spot on.

And off go the Walbran’s in their Cyberster.

“It’s an exciting new halo model to recognise a century of the MG marque and, at the same time, announce the start of a new era.”

Priced from $129,000, the Cyberster can generate up to 375kW of power as well as a 0-100km/hr time of 3.2 seconds.

It has a range of up to 443km WLTP and rapid charging capability that can power the vehicle from 10% to 80% in just 40 minutes using a 150kW CCS Public Charger.
