Mercedes SL roadster gets AMG performance

Mercedes-Benz has given its SL an AMG badge after upgrading the roadster with all-wheel drive, a stiffer body structure and powerful engines.
The new-generation SL is set to take on the Porsche 911 and will be sold exclusively as a Mercedes-AMG model.
The Mercedes-AMG SL also gets a soft-top roof, replacing the previous generation's hardtop, and a 2+2 seating configuration.
The roadster is underpinned by Mercedes' lightweight composite aluminum Modular Sports Architecture.

The roadster is underpinned by Mercedes' lightweight composite aluminum Modular Sports Architecture. The torsional rigidity of the body shell structure increased by 18 percent and, together with the low center of gravity, the construction gives the car outstanding driving dynamics, Mercedes said in a statement.
The SL will be launched with the AMG's 4-litre V-8 twin-turbocharged engine. In the top 63 4MATIC+ model, the engine develops 430 kW and provides a maximum torque of 800 Nm, with 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, with a top speed is 315 km/h.
The Mercedes-AMG SL also gets a soft top roof, and a 2+2 seating configuration.
In the SL 55 4MATIC+, the V8 unit develops an output of 350 kW and a peak torque of 700 Nm. The sprint from standstill to 100 km/h takes 3.9 seconds, the top speed is 295 km/h.
The interior of the new Mercedes-AMG SL transforms the tradition of the first 300 SL Roadster into the modern era. The new edition perfectly combines sporting virtues and luxury. Fine materials and meticulous workmanship underline the standard of the highest level of comfort.
The cockpit design, right down to the adjustable central display in the centre console, is focused on the driver. At the same time, the completely new interior space concept with 2+2 seats offers more room and functionality than before. The rear seats increase the daily practicality and offer space for people up to 1.50 metres tall.
Mercedes-Benz New Zealand said its first vehicles are expected to arrive in the second half of 2022. More information about the local line-up, including pricing and specifications, will be announced closer to that time.
