Mercedes-Benz’s electric flagship EQS close to production
The latest shots of the Mercedes-Benz electric luxury sedan, the EQS, show it is close to production and ready to take on the Tesla Model S.
Photos of it being tested gives us a better look at the silhouette. It’s expected to be the same size as a Mercedes-Benz CLS but the interior space of an S-Class. It has a shorter bonnet than the S-Class but a more sharply banked windscreen.
The concept EQS was showcased at the 2019 Frankfurt motor show, and will be launched after the all-new S-Class sedan, which goes on sale later this year.
The EQS is actually the first EQ model to be crafted on the Mercedes-Benz aluminium intensive Modular Electric Architecture (MEA) that includes a flat floor structure. This, plus a three metre wheelbase, and without the intrusion of a transmission tunnel, give the EQS it’s spacious interior dimensions.
It’s been speculated that the electric Mercedes will have a world best 700 km range, beating the top spec Model S range of 650km.
