Pictures have emerged of a prototype of the Mercedes-Benz EQA all electric crossover that will compete with the Tesla Model Y.

The Mercedes-Benz' naming system for electric vehicles "EQ" means electric and then there is an additional letter "A", "B", "C", "E", "S" which marries them to the equivalent "normal" A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, E-Class and S-Class.

Currently only the EQC is in production but you can expect to see an upcoming seven-seat EQB SUV and the EQS sedan.

The EQA sports the EQ-type door mirrors and also the EQ grille. It exhibits more compact dimensions, compared to EQC.

Other details are short on the ground at the moment but we expect the EQA to have improved MBUX software and a longer range the EQC.

We could expect to see the EQA in New Zealand next year.
