Toyota today revealed its latest compact crossover, and the Yaris Cross, and it will be the brand’s smallest SUV.

Toyota is predicting 150,000 sales in the first year in Europe so it has high hopes for this mini model. It will be a right-hand model too so will be globally distributed.

With its strong C-Pillar that appears to rise at the rear, it looks sharp. Perhaps with a hint of Volvo XC40.

It’s default engine will be a hybrid with a1.5-litre three cylinder capacity and developing 86kW of power.

Inside the dashboard will mirror that in the Yaris hatchback, with the large infotainment screen that sits out profoundly from the centre console.

It will have a powered tailgate and a 40:20:40 split rear seat.

No word on whether we will see it in New Zealand but if we do it won’t be until 2022.  The next Yaris should arrive here in 2021, if the September 2020 global release goes a ahead as planned.
