If you want a Polestar 1 you had better be quick as the final build slots are being allocated for this halo hybrid sports coupe.

Polestar is the performance company and brand of Volvo Cars, and the Polestar 1 has a limited run capped at three years with a total of 1500 units to be produced for the left-hand drive market only.

The manufacturer allotted375 for U.S. customers, making it one of the more exclusive hybrids.

The last 500 units will be built at the Polestar factory in Chengdu, China. There were 65 examples were registered in Europe in 2020, so we can assume from this, as Polestar doesn’t comment on sales figures, that a reasonable chunk of the 500 production may still be awaiting sale.

The Polestar 1 has a 450kW hybrid powertrain operating off a 2-litre engine that is both turbocharged and supercharged, with two electric motors on the rear. Its 34kWh battery gives over 110km, which is said to be (at least currently) one of the longest partial hybrid ranges in the world.

Polestar will now be concentrating on the manufacture of its pure EVs, such as the Polestar 2 that Volvo Cars NZ hopes to have here next year.
