A recent survey commissioned by Jaguar Land Rover NZ revealed that over half of Kiwis are stepping off the beaten track this summer, choosing rugged routes and coastal tracks over familiar roads.

The survey of more than 1000 New Zealanders aged 30 to 88 found that 58 percent wanted to leave the tarmac and State Highways and instead get their vehicles dirty.

The data indicates that we are embracing journeys that showcase our country’s beauty, according to Jaguar Land Rover NZ (JLR). For many, a road trip is all about the experience itself, with 70 percent saying the journey is just as important as the destination.

From the Coromandel Peninsula to Milford Sound and the iconic Christchurch-to-Queenstown route, the survey revealed the destinations Kiwis find most exciting for summer road trips. Nearly 69 percent of respondents said coastal areas or beaches were their top choice, while 58 percent enjoy combining iconic routes with hidden gems.

For modern Kiwi road trippers, the right vehicle is an essential partner in exploration.  Nearly 92 perecent of Kiwis say their car must be reliable and safe, especially when venturing into uncharted territory.

Nearly half (47 percent) of respondents say factors like comfort, safety, and fuel efficiency influence their route choices. With these new demands in mind, choosing the right car is an essential part of the adventure.

JLR reckons that the Land Rover Discovery is built to meet this new wave of adventure. Designed to take on both famous routes and hidden trails, it offers comfort and safety every step of the way. With Discovery, Kiwis can explore new territories, confident that their vehicle can handle whatever the road throws at them.

“Kiwis are drawn to the thrill of exploration – it’s not just about reaching the destination  but embracing every moment along the way,” says Steve Kenchington, CEO of JLR NZ

“The Land Rover Discovery is designed to inspire Kiwis to journey further,  uncover hidden treasures, and embrace new adventures. Its versatility also helps families connect, share meaningful experiences, and truly appreciate our incredible  landscapes together.”
