Volkswagon Commercial NZ has announced that Kiwis will be able to buy the van that has everyone a buzz, the ID. Buzz all-electric Kombi van lookalike.

The ID.Buzz is an electric vehicle that Volkswagen is aiming at families while building on the nostalgia of its 1960s iconic vans.

VW Commerical NZ general manager, Kevin Richards, announced the arrival of the ID. Buzz at the launch of the brand’s Multivan PHEV.

Richards said that production of the ID. Buzz would start at the end of the year, with confirmation of it arriving in New Zealand in 2023.

The ID.Buzz's all-electric powertrain will come in the rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations, delivering a driving range that's expected to be around 420km.

Plugged into a DC fast-charger, VW says the van will be able to charge its battery from 5 to 80 percent in 30 minutes.

The design of the ID. Buzz commemorates the German company's Microbus with hints at the popular Kombi van that many Kiwis drove in Europe during their OE.

The ID. Buzz will be available as a five-seater and then later as a seven-seater. VW will also introduce an ID. Buzz Cargo van.

From launch, the ID. Buzz will be a five-seater.
