While the Tokyo Olympics may have been postponed until 2021, one of our leading sprinters is using the lockdown to train in a very unusual way – by towing his mum’s car.

Sprinter Joseph Millar took his mum's Daihatsu for a spin without even starting the engine. By using a length of rope, the 100-meter sprinter has re-imagined the weighted sled whilst providing some entertainment for the family.

"I can do something more similar to what I regularly do, and have a bit of fun with it. I think my sister in the car was having a bit more fun than I was," Millar told TVNZ.

NZ Chef de Mission Rob Waddell said the official postponement gives athletes the ability to plan a training regimen despite testing conditions.

"Trying to peak for an Olympic Games and get that right and how that fits in with the rest of your life is a big deal. So for athletes coming to this point, there was a lot of uncertainty, now there's been a clear answer on the games being postponed, it does allow them to plan."
