Jaguar I-Pace EV gets faster charging, extra tech
Jaguar’s electric SUV, the I-Pace, will get a faster on-board charger and updated infotainment system as part of an upgrade for this year’s vehicles.
While it previously had a 7kW on-board charger, it will now be sold with a three-phase 11kW unit as standard, meaning it will charge to 53km in an hour or to full in 8.6 hours. That’s an improvement over 12.75 hours to a full charge with a 7kW wallbox.
The revamped I-Pace will also be the first Jaguar to feature the firm’s latest Pivi Pro infotainment system, which is currently only found in the new Land Rover Defender.
Combining a 12.3in digital instrument cluster and 10in and 5in touchscreens, the system has a revamped menu system and over-the-air upgrades.
The Pivi Pro is fast and responsive with enhanced EV navigation that can show you if nearby charging stations are available or in use, what they cost, and how long it will take to charge (market-dependent).
Jaguar I-Paces vehicle line director, Alan Volkaerts, said when the car was developed, the brand wanted it to be “the world’s most desirable electric vehicle and to show what happens when Jaguar goes electric”.
“I think we’ve achieved those ambitious goals, and now we’ve made it even better with a new infotainment system, three-phase charging and technology that benefits driver and passengers alike.”
Exterior design upgrades include new paint colours and new 19in wheel designs replace the 18in versions as standard on S models.
Inside, a 360 degree 3D surround camera system is now offered as standard while Jaguar Land Rover's ClearSight digital rear-view mirror will be offered as an option for the first time.
ClearSight rear view mirror improves vision and convenience by ensuring the driver always has an unobstructed view of the road behind, even with three people in the rear seat or with the 656-litre luggage compartment loaded up to the roof.
A wireless smartphone charger is also an option, while both front seats now come with heating systems as standard.
The current Jaguar I-Pace is priced from NZ$144,900 and has a range of 470km. We could expect to see the upgraded model in New Zealand later this year.
