Hyundai New Zealand has revealed pricing for its 2023 Ioniq 5 midsize SUV, and specification upgrades to its ‘Limited’ model, including a more powerful engine.

New technology in the Limited Model includes a Heads-Up Display with augmented reality, an internal plug to power household devices, and a larger battery option with a more powerful motor.

The upgrades will help Ioniq 5 retain the exulted position earned this year as World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle of the Year, and World Car Design of the Year.

“The Ioniq  5 makes available today technology that New Zealand consumers will have thought was still in the future,” says Andy Sinclair, Hyundai New Zealand CEO.

“The Ioniq  5 makes it clear that the EV driving experience goes way beyond the environmental benefits and running costs.”

Ioniq 5 is built upon Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated BEV architecture called Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), enabling it to have unique proportions on an elongated wheelbase.
Customers can select from three battery pack options, either 58 kWh, 72.6 kWh, and a new 77.4 kWh battery (Limited Model only), with four power outputs over two drive layouts, either with a rear motor only or with dual front and rear motors.

At the top of the electric motor line-up is an all-wheel drive (AWD) option paired with a 72.6 kWh or 77.4 kWh battery, producing a combined power output of 225 kWh or 239 kW, and 605 Nm of torque. These configurations go from 0 km/h to 100 km/h in 5.2 and 5.1 seconds respectively.

Ioniq 5’s maximum driving range on a single charge will be around 481 km in the two-wheel drive (2WD) with the 72.6 kWh battery (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) standard).

In a surprise move, given the rising cost of living, the 58 kWh rear motor version maintains its retail pricing of $79,990, as does the 72.6 kWh rear motor, with a starting price of RRP $89,990.

The 72.6 kWh all-wheel drive has two variations, Entry and Limited, priced at $97,990 and $111,990 (with Vision Roof) respectively.

The new 77.4 kWh all-wheel drive, only in the Limited model, is priced at $117,990 (with Vision Roof).

Ioniq 5 is equipped with the latest version of the Hyundai SmartSense advanced driver assistance system, which includes assistance for blind spot collision avoidance, forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, lane following, rear cross-traffic avoidance, and smart cruise control and driver attention warnings.

Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Company announced that its Ioniq  6 electrified streamliner will deliver 614 km 1 of all-electric range per charge, according to the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).

Ioniq  6 customers will benefit from Hyundai Motor Group’s commitment to developing advanced battery technology that enables stress-free driving performance and long range. With WLTP-rated energy consumption of 13.9 kWh/100 km, the Ioniq  6 will be one of the most energy-efficient electric vehicles (EV) on the market when it goes on sale later this year in select markets in Europe and next year in New Zealand.
