Just ahead of its arrival in New Zealand, Hyundai’s fully-electric Ioniq  6 has received a five-star ANCAP safety rating.

Launching in this quarter, the Ioniq 6 scored a record high 97 percent in its protection of adult occupants, and full points scored on tests for its protection of children.

Australia and New Zealand’s independent assessor of vehicle safety ANCAP found Hyundai’s latest battery electric vehicle (BEV) has very good safety performance in vehicle-to-vehicle crashes and low levels of injury risk across all tested crash scenarios. The Ioniq  6 also received full points for the protection of children in both frontal-offset and side-impact tests.

Hyundai New Zealand CEO Andy Sinclair says the company was  "thrilled to see the Ioniq  6 achieve such a high safety rating, which is a testament to Hyundai's commitment to safety and innovation”.

ANCAP Chief Executive, Carla Hoorweg, also praised the Ioniq  6's safety performance, stating, "Electric vehicles have the potential to pose less risk to vehicle occupants in a frontal crash scenario, and we've seen that play out in testing of the Ioniq  6. The vehicle's autonomous emergency braking system also performed very well in testing."
