The latest blockbuster, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, may feature Australian star Chris Hemsworth and British actor Anya Taylor-Joy but they also share the screen with an American icon, Harley-Davidson.

The movie is based on the origin story of renegade warrior Furiosa (Taylor-Joy) before her encounter and team-up with Mad Max.

Hemsworth is Dementus, who “rules the Australian wasteland with two wheels and an iron fist”. And those two and three-wheels? They belong to Harley-Davidson.

The American motorbike brand supplied 12 models for the film, including its famous Pan America S, Breakout 114 and a recreated Captain America chopper. In addition, to dress the huge cast, they provided Harley merchandise

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’s Academy Award-winning Production Designer, Colin Gibson, said it was Harley-Davidson’s “brave decision to supply examples both new and old of their fine engineering, knowing full well the non-exclusivity of the apocalypse”.

“Well, only the best survive to be well-armed and well-used on both bitumen and badlands,” he said.

“The barely-yet released Pan America, fitted with extended swing arm and camel-saddle stitched with hessian and ‘human’ skin, adorned with jawbone of an ass, features early on.

“Dementus’ dirty dozen sergeants well represented Harley; Fang on a chromed Chopper; the Octoboss takes to the air on an Ultra fitted with an airplane prop and held aloft on an octopus kite; and Smeg, riding the BareKnuckle, fitted with a rickshaw for those long weary days in the saddle and the sand,” he continued.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is now screening in New Zealand, while you can check out the bikes and film accessories here.
