First-ever McLaren P1 heading to auction
It’s known as one of the so-called Holy Trinity of hypercars and now it’s your chance to own the first-ever McLaren P1… if you have nearly $2million to spare.
Up for sale in the UK at the famous Silverstone auction is the P1 that was the first example registered with a customer.
The estimated price that it will sell for is £885,000 (NZ$1.7m), while a McLaren P1 was sold to a Kiwi in 2015 for $1.8m.
The Volcano Yellow P1 was one of just 375 of the flagship McLaren produced, thanks to ground-breaking technology pioneered in Formula One.
The P1 is powered by a 3.8-litre, twin-turbocharged V-8 mated to an electric motor intended to fill the gaps in performance from the conventional petrol engine. This gives the McLaren a total output of 678kW.
Due to the car’s monstrous power output and unique aerodynamics, it hits 100km/h in just 2.8 seconds, followed by 200km/h in 6.8 seconds, onwards to 300km/h in 16.5 seconds and a top speed of 345km/h.
An original personal letter, dated 9th October 2013, in the accompanying history file from Frank Stephenson, the McLaren P1 designer.
The letter says that “It was with great pleasure that I was there with our team to witness you driving our very first baby out into the big wide world”.
With a black leather interior and Alcantara dash, this very special UK-delivered P1 has covered 3666 miles (5899km) from new in the hands of its two UK owners, who are from the same family.
And good news for the new owner, the hybrid battery was replaced in 2018.
Also accompanying the car is a small-scale P1 car model, UK V5C, handbook, original Bill of Sale and various impressive McLaren literature books that accompanied these cars when it was delivered new.
The trio was known as the "hypercar holy trinity," consisting of the Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918 Spyder, and P1.
The P1 goes to auction on May 22 (UK time).
