The Detroit motor show is under threat from the COVID19 pandemic with organisers unsure whether the event will take place in June.

Officially named the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), the yearly event was held in January from 1989 to 2019, but is planned to take place in June from 2020 onwards. It is one of the largest auto shows in North America.

Now officials may follow the lead of the Geneva Motor Show and cancel the event due to COVID19.

“We are in daily contact with all of our partners as well as state and local officials and health experts as we continue to carefully evaluate the situation.

“We are still several weeks before our June event and we have time before construction would begin.

“While timing is an important consideration now, our top priority will always be the safety and health of participating automakers, sponsors and the public.

“NAIAS also recognizes (sic) that this situation continues to evolve. NAIAS will continue to provide updates about this issue as necessary.”
