The Ineos Grenadier has more than 17,000 registered potential buyers according to the company’s commercial director, Mark Tennant.

The Grenadier was designed by Ineos Automotive Ltd, a company founded by billionaire Jim Ratcliffe. The Grenadier strongly reminiscent of the old Land Rover Defender  and is to be powered by BMW six-cylinder engines.

The Grenadier SUV made its first public at London’s Concours of Elegance at Kensington Palace last week (see above).

Prototype testing of the Grenadier is now underway, with the aim of accumulating 1.8 million kilometres on- and off-road during 2020. Sales are planned to start in markets worldwide from the end of 2021.

Ineos needs to achieve a 25,000 to 30,000 sales per year mark to be profitable and Tennant said Ineos wants to keep the different trims and options list relatively simple. The interior hasn’t been seen yet but details are expected soon.

The Grenadier, which uses a laser frame chassis co-designed with Magna Steyr, will be sold as a five-door SUV style and as a double cab ute. Talks are underway about a three-door variant, to compete against the Defender 90.
