BMW teases with M3 wagon images, and releases 545e sedan
Hallelujah! BMW is going to make an M3 wagon aka Touring again with the M Division breaking pictures on its Instagram page overnight.
The picture (above) only shows the rear bumper and quad pipes so we don’t know much else on styling yet, but naturally it will follow the form of the current touring and take styling cues from the “next gen” M3 sedan.
The base engine will be 360kW in-line six and the Competition will sport a 383kW engine, probably with an all-wheel-drive option.
Not only will it soon be regularly sighted around Munich, the intensive testing and tuning process for the BMW M3 Touring will also take it to the world’s toughest proving ground: the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring.
The M3 sedan and coupe come out next month, for the global reveal, with the convertible close behind and then we imagine the wagon.
Meanwhile, BMW has released the plug-in electric 545e XDrive sedan which now joins the 530e that has been around since 2017, and available as a sedan and wagon. The 545e will only come in a sedan and standard all-wheel drive.
It gets a six cylinder which is turbocharged and has an output which has 215kW. It’s electric motor, which uses a 12kWh battery, gets an additional 82kW. This enables both combined systems to produce 297kW and 600Nm torque and a pure electric range of 54-57km.
This engine has previously appeared in the BMW745e and the BMW X5 xDrive45e on the global stage and has received acclaim.
