An electric version of the BMW X1 is underway and will be a competitor to the Volkswagen ID.4

The iX1 all-electric crossover is scheduled to debut sometime in the second half of 2021 and will be BMW’s second electric crossover after the iX3, introduced in 2020. The iX3 is arriving in New Zealand in mid-2021.

The iX1 will be a valuable competitor against the VW ID.4 that looks set to sell up a storm.

The second-generation X1 has sold well in Europe, with more than 500,000 cars being produced in five years. The next generation of the X1 compact SUV will go on sale in Europe in the next few months.

The iX1 is an important vehicle for BMW Group as it plans to sell more than seven million full and partial electric vehicles by 2030. BMW also aims to have nine electric vehicles in play by 2025.

Styling of the iX1 (and X1) will break new ground, like it will with the next X2, with BMW aiming to make more of a splash in what is becoming a hugely competitive and interesting segment.

The iX1 is set to use a 210kWh motor, driven via the rear axle, with a 80kWh battery good for a range of over 450km.
