BMW New Zealand has announced that the new X3 M Competition and X4 M Competition will arrive here later this year and will feature a raft of updates.

The new X3 M Competition and X4 M Competition models build on the modern design of the updated BMW X3 and X4, but feature more powerful design elements that emphasis their ultra-high performance nature.

They are priced from $179,900 for the X3 M Competition while the X4 M Competition is from $184,900.

The X3 M and X4 M Competition get a new island control designs and a larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen.

Four new colours – Carbon Black metallic, Marina Bay Blue metallic, Brooklyn Grey and Sao Paulo Yellow – add to a large palette of attractive exterior colours for the new models. For the first time, BMW Individual paint finishes such as ‘Frozen’ matte options are also available on request.

The in-line 6-cylinder engine in the BMW X3 M Competition and X4 M Competition now features a forged lightweight crankshaft from the engine of the BMW M3 and M4 Competition.

Coupled with an extremely torsion-resistant design, the new crankshaft enables particularly high torque and 50 Nm more torque over its predecessors, while still maintaining the high-revving characteristics of a racing engine.

In addition to responsive revving and high power, the engine is also supremely versatile, and manages to maintain peak torque of 650 Nm between 2,750 and 5,500 rpm. Maximum output of 375 kW is achieved at 6,250 rpm, and is sustained all the way to the redline at 7,200 rpm.

This enhanced engine performance is effectively transferred to the road via an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission and an intelligent BMW M xDrive all-wheel drive system – enabling lightning straight line performance. The 0-100km/h sprint is completed by both cars in just 3.8 seconds.

The electronically controlled M xDrive – which is networked with the car’s DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system – is calibrated to retain BMW’s hallmark rear-drive characteristics, only sending power to the front axle when the rear wheels reach the limits of grip.

The X4 M Competition is priced from $184,900.

Innovative digital services based on BMW Operating System 7 bring features such as Remote Software Upgrade, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, and Driving Assistant Professional – enabling a highly integrated digital ecosystem of entertainment and assistance to the driver.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity is also offered on both cars, bringing native Apps from both operating systems straight onto the car’s information display.

Finally, a Harman Kardon surround sound system comes as standard for a superb audio experience.
