The all-new BMW 2 Series Coupé has just been revealed and Kiwi fans of the car can celebrate as it will be arriving here by quarter one next year.

Components and technology sourced from the new BMW 4 Series combine with the model-specific development program to lay the foundations for outstanding performance attributes.

In New Zealand, where one in four cars sold carries M or M Performance credentials, performance-loving BMW fans will welcome the range-topping M240i xDrive, featuring a powerful BMW TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine upfront.

For the first time on the 2 Series Coupé model, power goes to all four wheels with a rear-drive bias via BMW’s advanced xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

The The all-new BMW 2 Series Coupé has a length of 4537mm.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé also comes in all-new metal, with a premium cabin ambiance and cutting-edge innovations in the areas of operation and connectivity.

The combination of compact dimensions, lightweight design, and up to 12 percent increase in static torsional rigidity, 50:50 weight distribution, and optimised aerodynamics create the ideal blueprint for a vehicle character that majors in sporting excellence.

The exterior dimensions of the new compact sports model provide the ideal starting point for outstanding driving dynamics.

A vehicle length of 4537mm and width of 1838mm represent increases over the measurements for the predecessor model of 105mm and 64mm respectively.

However, the new car stands 28mm lower, with a vehicle height of just 1390mm.

The BMW kidney grille features vertically arranged air flaps.

Other factors in the athletic appearance of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé are its wheelbase, which is now 51mm longer at 2741mm, and the wide tracks.

Three-dimensional surfaces, triangular forms, and diagonal lines characterise the striking front end of the new BMW 2 Series Coupé.

Prominently flared wheel arches and a muscular power dome at the centre of the bonnet give a clear indication of the 2 Series Coupé’s dynamic driving characteristics.

The BMW kidney grille is horizontal in design and features vertically arranged air flaps at its heart in place of the classical bars.

It has a driver-focused cockpit design and modern control panel.

These open electrically when the engine has an increased requirement for cooling air.

The 3-litre six-cylinder in-line TwinPower Turbo engine of the BMW M240i xDrive will deliver exemplary performance while also presenting a unique offering in the segment.

With a maximum output of 285kW, it develops 35kW more than the engine in its predecessor. Peak torque of 500Nm arrives at just 1900rpm and pulls strongly throughout most of the car’s rev range.

Paired to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission that delivers smooth and sharp gear changes, the new BMW M240i xDrive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds with Launch Control enabled.

Further details on pricing and equipment to be announced closer to the launch date.
