BMW has officially confirmed the existence of the M3 Touring (aka wagon) as more testing pictures have emerged and a teaser from the brand itself.

BMW is teasing the prototype around the brand’s development centre in Garching near Munich with racetrack tests on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring to follow.

Due in around two years, BMW plans to make a big deal of this model and will aim to make it the hero of its category, with special videos that will tell it’s story leading up to production.

I assume this means BMW will make the M3 Touring the equivalent of what the gorgeous Audi RS6 has done for the large rapid station wagon category, which is a very exciting possibility indeed!

The BMW M3 wagon will have the Audi RS4 and Mercedes C63s estate to compete with but BMW plans to outdo them. The history of the M3 name and BMW’s know how in making the sedan, coupe and convertible versions such fun machines will no doubt well and truly transfer into the M3 wagon.

The “standard” M3 is powered by a twin turbo 3-litre six cylinder engine producing 352kW in base form and 375kW in competition guise. It’s expected the wagon will follow suit.

Two years is a long time to wait but this should be one special ski car, dog sportsmobile or dual income no kids “weekend escaper”.
