Pictures have been spotted in Mexico of the BMW 2 Series, which is expected to be released in 2021.

Codenamed the G42 it will use BMW’s “CLAR” platform, which means it will be rear-wheel-drive, as opposed to the 2 Series Grand Coupe which uses the “FAAR” front-wheel-drive platform.

It will have a longitudinal mounted engine rather than a transverse engine layout.

A number of three and four cylinder petrol engines are expected and it could include a diesel engine too.

The M2 will use a 3-litre six cylinder that should have over 300kW of power and will be a detuned version of what is in the X3M and X4M.   It should have 48-volt electrical capability, meaning that it will also have mild hybrid technology.
