It seems Kiwis are hankering for nostalgia after this weekend’s Webb’s Collectors' Cars, Motorcycles & Automobilia auction results with a 1971 Land Rover Series IIA selling for double its valuation.

There were 76 vehicles up for auction including everything from Aston Martin’s to Chevrolets and a Toyota LandCruiser. Although Webb’s staff thought that most of the vehicles for sale would be snapped up not only by New Zealanders but Aussie fans, there were 22 cars unsold when the auction closed.

The Land Rover had an estimate of between $40,000 - $45,000 but sold for a total of $79,350, including buyer's premium (BP).

According to Caolán McAleer, Webb’s head of Collectors’ Cars, Motorcycles & Single Owner Collections, one of the stars of the auction was a 2002 Ferrari 550 Barchetta.

“A standout is of course the 2002 Ferrari 550 Barchetta which was the last V12 Ferrari with manual as the standard option which explains the market appreciation of these vehicles on top of the stunning Pininfarnia design,” said McAleer.

It had an estimate of between $450,000 - $550,000 but sold for $430,500 (including BP).

AutoMuse’s favourite, a 1960 Porsche 356B Karmann Notchback, was expected to sell between $145,000-$175,000 and went for $152,375 (including BP).
